Do You Accidentally Damage Coral Without Even Knowing It?

Many individuals are unaware that their snorkeling or island-hopping excursions can significantly damage coral reefs without even knowing about it. Such harm often results from irresponsible anchoring practices and detrimental tourist activities, including small-scale fishing and fish feeding.

We are compelled to observe this situation daily. At OnBird, we prioritize reef safety by ensuring that our boats anchor exclusively in sandy areas. Additionally, we prohibit fish feeding and small-scale fishing during our tours to protect the marine ecosystem, all boat crews must do this comply with our company’s regulation. Besides that we also do some “floating anchors” for a boat, which prevents direct anchoring on the ocean floor, is typically called a mooring buoy; it’s a buoy anchored to the seabed that a boat can tie to instead of dropping its own anchor, thus minimizing damage to the ocean floor, particularly in sensitive ecosystems like coral reefs.

We assure our guests that during OnBird’s discovery snorkeling trip, they can enjoy their snorkeling experience with peace of mind, knowing that they will not inadvertently damage any coral.
