About OnBird

OnBird began in late 2018, driven more by passion than business plans.

Two of us had fallen in love with the coral reefs off Phu Quoc and started taking visitors out to experience them – informally at first, learning the rhythms of the sea as we went. What surprised us was what happened next: travellers began sharing their experiences on international forums, helping others discover us through word of mouth rather than advertising.

A year later, the pandemic brought Phu Quoc and much of the world’s travel industry to a standstill. For nearly three years, international tourism faced unprecedented uncertainty.

We chose not to stop.

Alongside OnBird, we launched Phu Quoc Sandbox, an independent initiative dedicated to providing international travellers with reliable information about when and how the island might reopen between 2020 and 2022. We continued writing, documenting, and sharing the Phu Quoc we knew was still there: its quiet beaches, vibrant reefs, fishing communities, and enduring natural beauty.

Those challenging years also allowed us to define OnBird more clearly.

Since 2022, OnBird has operated as a licensed international tour operator (International Travel Agency License Number: 91-032/2022/TCDL-GP LHQT) and has a team of more than 30 guides, guest experience specialists, operations professionals, and conservation practitioners. Every year, we have the opportunity to introduce thousands of travelers to Phu Quoc’s marine and culture beauty while sharing a deeper message about responsible ocean stewardship.

Every tour is carefully planned based on real-time assessments of weather, tides, currents, and reef conditions. Standardised operating procedures ensure guest safety while minimising environmental impact through responsible snorkeling practices and sustainable operations.

Restoration

Tourism should contribute to nature’s recovery, not only its protection. Through our coral restoration programme with marine scientists, supported by a portion of every direct booking, guests help restore damaged reefs and contribute to Phu Quoc’s long-term marine resilience.

OnBird combines responsible tourism with marine conservation by offering safety-focused underwater experiences that prioritize coral reef protection. Its Exclusive Open Water Safety Management system tailors each excursion to weather conditions and guest experience levels. The company further reinforces its environmental commitment by allocating a portion of its monthly profits to support coral conservation and marine cleanup projects in Phú Quốc and Vietnam.
