There are cosmetic products are using microbeads to give “scrubbing effect” and “deep cleaning sensation.”
These microbeads are produced using plastic, which are not captured by most wastewater treatment systems.
If washed down the drain after use, they can end up in our rivers, lakes, and oceans. Our health could be affecting by consuming fishes and other sea life creatures that are contaminated with toxins from microbeads.
Currently (As of year 2021) only United States of America, Canada and United Kingdom have total ban on microbeads. It is up to us to prevent microbeads entering the natural environment. Read ingredients and do not buy the products that contains microbeads. Buy products that using crushed walnut shells, oats, sugar, or jojoba seeds instead. Spread awareness. Share the information among your friends and families. Lobby your local government officials and representatives to ban microbeads.
