Summer in Phu Quoc: Warm Waters, Real Coral Reefs, and Families Who Came Back Smiling

9

March sits at a turning point in Phu Quoc’s calendar. The dry season is winding down, the sea temperature is climbing back up after the cooler months of December through February, and the water around South Phu Quoc settles into a comfortable warmth that makes snorkeling feel effortless. On the days when conditions lined up – like the last days of March 26, when the sea was calm, the light was right, and the water cleared up beyond the monthly average – our guests found themselves floating above dense coral gardens that looked almost unreal. Those are the moments that stay with you.

Here is what our guests experienced during their snorkeling adventures with OnBird in March 2026.

Less-Experienced Snorkelers Felt Safe From the Start

One theme came up again and again in our March Google reviews: how comfortable first-time snorkelers felt – even those who cannot swim.

Hei Chow, who visited Phu Quoc in March, shared a 5-star review on Google Maps:

This was our first time snorkeling, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience! I especially appreciated how well-organized the process was, especially since I don’t know how to swim. The coaches were incredibly patient and supportive – they took their time assisting everyone and reassured me not to be afraid. By the end, I was even more willing to try new things! The underwater world was so peaceful and beautiful. Although the tour may be slightly higher priced compared to other options, I truly believe it was worth every penny. This was hands down the best experience I’ve had in Phu Quoc!

Guides Who Teach, Not Just Lead

The guides do not just show you where to swim. They share knowledge about the ocean, identify marine life by name, and help children understand what they are seeing.

Luna’s Travel Journey wrote about her family’s experience:

It was really wonderful experience. Guides are perfect. On second snorkeling spot, Marcus dived and pointed each corals for kids. Kids were really happy to see and know which one is what corals. I really appreciated his kind and thoughtful guide. All the other guides also tried to make sure kids’ safety and help them to have a great experience. I highly recommend Onbird if anyone is looking for a beautiful, wonderful snorkeling experience in Phu Quoc.

For kids, that kind of hands-on marine biology lesson often becomes the highlight of their entire Phu Quoc trip.

Families with Non-Swimmers Are Welcome

“My kids can swim, but I cannot. Can I still join?” We hear this a lot. The answer is always yes.

Wang Manda, a Local Guide on Google Maps with over 60 reviews, brought her parents on their very first snorkeling experience:

This was the first time snorkeling for my parents, and it’s amazingggg! The underwater view was absolutely great. We saw so many beautiful corals and fish. The guides were incredibly friendly and patient. Even though none of us can swim, they made sure we felt safe and comfortable throughout the entire trip. One thing to note is that my mom experienced seasickness due to the waves, so I would definitely recommend taking motion sickness medication if you are prone to it. Thankfully, the guides took great care of her, and she felt much better soon after. Overall, this trip is highly recommended!

Worth the Investment

Michel M. shared his perspective:

We have had a great experience with Onbird. They picked us up from our hotel, the crew were very enthusiastic and friendly, plus they explained everything well, from coral conservation to how to snorkel. They provided the snorkeling equipment, however, if you have your own I would recommend you to bring it. They also offer a photography package for 250,000 vnd. Drinks and fruits provided in the end of the trip. Recommend.

OnBird offers optional photography packages so families can take home underwater memories.

Hotel pickup, professional-grade snorkeling equipment, small group sizes (maximum 8-10 guests), coral conservation education, underwater photography, and post-trip refreshments – it adds up to a snorkeling experience in Phu Quoc that feels personal and unhurried.

The Perfect Way to End the Day: Love Island

After the last snorkeling stop, the boat heads to Love Island – a quiet, sun-drenched spot where the only thing on the schedule is doing nothing at all.

This is where the tour slows down completely. Guests step onto the island, change into dry clothes, and settle in. Seasonal fruits and drinks are waiting – all included in the tour price. No rush to get back on the boat. No next activity to hurry toward. Just the sound of the water, the warmth of the late afternoon, and the kind of unhurried stillness that Phu Quoc does so well.

For families, this is often the moment when kids start talking about everything they saw underwater – the corals, the fish, the moment they felt brave enough to put their face in the water for the first time. Parents get to sit back, take a breath, and simply enjoy the island before the boat brings everyone back to the harbor.

It is a small thing, but it changes the way the whole day feels.

What to Expect From April Through September: OnBird’s Water Condition Outlook

Planning a trip in the coming months? Here is what our marine observation team forecasts – based on years of daily monitoring, not generic weather apps.

Most travelers rely on standard weather websites to decide when to visit Phu Quoc. Those platforms are often less than 10% accurate for this region. OnBird has developed its own marine forecasting system with 90-95% accuracy, refined over years of recording water temperature, currents, visibility, and wave patterns across Phu Quoc’s reef sites.

April – tail end of the dry season. Minimal rainfall, warm water, calm seas, stunning sunsets. One of the most pleasant months for snorkeling in Phu Quoc.

May through July – technically the start of the rainy season, but these months function more like summer: plenty of sunshine, occasional short showers (20-60 minutes), and some of the best underwater visibility of the entire year. May, June, and August offer a high number of excellent-visibility days – ideal for families exploring coral reefs.

August through September – peak rainy season, but continuous rainfall is rare. Heavy storms pass quickly. OnBird’s forecasting system can anticipate unfavorable conditions up to 9-12 days in advance, allowing us to schedule trips on the best days.

Below are some photos we took on a site inspection last September.

One insight that surprises most visitors: underwater visibility in South Phu Quoc is often better during the rainy season than the dry season.
