1. Eligible Insured Persons
The insurance policy covers:
- Vietnamese citizens and foreign residents legally residing in Vietnam.
- Individuals aged 6 months to 80 years old.
- Persons traveling, sightseeing, vacationing, engaging in leisure activities, or staying at accommodation facilities within Vietnam.
High-Risk Activities Requiring Prior Approval and Additional Premium
Coverage for the following activities is only available when specifically approved by the insurance provider and subject to an additional premium:
- Diving deeper than 20 meters.
- Exploration and surveying activities.
- Stunt performances.
- Motor racing, horse racing, boat racing.
- Mountain climbing and rock climbing.
- Surfing and parachuting.
- Professional sports activities.
- Boxing, wrestling, karate, taekwondo, and similar martial arts.
2. Benefits Covered by the Insurance Provider
A. Death or Permanent Total Disability Due to an Accident
Covered When:
- The accident occurs during the insurance period; or
- The insured person is injured while:
- Rescuing another person.
- Protecting government property.
- Protecting public property.
- Preventing or resisting criminal activities.
Compensation:
- 100% of the insured sum stated in the insurance certificate or policy.
B. Permanent Partial Disability Due to an Accident
Covered When:
- The accident falls within the insured scope; or
- The insured person is injured while:
- Rescuing another person.
- Protecting property.
- Preventing or resisting criminal activities.
Compensation:
For an Insured Sum Below VND 30 Million per Person
- Compensation is paid according to the disability schedule specified in Appendix I.
For an Insured Sum of VND 30 Million or More per Person
- Reimbursement of actual and reasonable medical expenses incurred.
- Compensation shall not exceed the percentage specified in the disability schedule in Appendix I.
Additional Provision
If, within one year from the date of the accident:
- The insured person dies; or
- Suffers permanent total disability
as a direct result of the same accident,
the insurance provider will pay the remaining balance up to the maximum benefit applicable for death or permanent total disability.
C. Temporary Partial Disability Due to an Accident
Covered Expenses
Reasonable medical expenses arising directly from an insured accident, including:
Inpatient Treatment
- Hospitalization costs.
- Hospital treatment expenses.
Outpatient Treatment
- Medical consultations.
- Outpatient treatment costs.
Medication
- Prescription drugs prescribed by a licensed physician.
Medical Supplies
- Bandages.
- Necessary medical materials and treatment supplies.
Compensation
For an Insured Sum Below VND 30 Million
- Compensation is paid according to the disability schedule in Appendix I.
For an Insured Sum of VND 30 Million or More
- Reimbursement of actual medical expenses incurred.
- Subject to:
- The disability percentage specified in Appendix I.
- A maximum of 50% of the insured sum.
D. Death Due to Illness During the Trip
Conditions
- The illness occurs during the insured trip.
- The event falls within the policy coverage.
Compensation
- 50% of the insured sum.
E. Death from Unknown Causes
Conditions
- The insured person is between 18 and 65 years old.
- The event occurs during the insurance period.
- The event falls within the scope of coverage.
Compensation
- 25% of the insured sum.
F. Ambulance Expenses
Covered When:
The insured person suffers:
- A life-threatening accident; or
- Injury while:
- Rescuing another person.
- Protecting property.
- Preventing or resisting criminal activities.
Compensation
- Ambulance transportation expenses to the nearest suitable medical facility capable of providing treatment.
Conditions
- Valid invoices or receipts must be provided.
- Coverage applies only to appropriate ground transportation.
- Air ambulance transportation is excluded.

CHAPTER I: GENERAL PRINCIPLES
Article 1: Definitions
- The policyholder (Insurance applicant): A legally established and operating organization, or an individual aged 18 or older with full legal capacity at the time of entering into an insurance contract with Bao Viet Insurance. The policyholder must meet the conditions for purchasing insurance according to the rules, conditions, and terms of the insurance policy and pay the insurance premium to Bao Viet Insurance. The policyholder must have an insurable interest as stipulated by law. The policyholder has an insurable interest in the following persons:
- The policyholder themselves;
- The policyholder’s parent/guardian;
- Spouse, biological children/adopted children of the Policyholder;
- A person who has a legal relationship of foster care and support with the Policyholder;
- Organizations and businesses act as representatives to purchase insurance for the individuals involved.
- Doctor: A doctor is a legally licensed medical professional, recognized by the laws of the country in which they practice medicine, and who is treating patients within the scope of their license and their area of expertise. A doctor can be a specialist or a medical consultant. The definition of a doctor does not include the following:
- The policyholder, the insured;
- Relatives of the Insured and/or relatives of the Policyholder, legal guardians, beneficiaries.
- Illness/Sickness: This refers to a physical condition exhibiting signs of a disease other than normal health, manifested by symptoms or syndromes diagnosed by a doctor. According to this insurance policy, the illness/sickness must occur during the trip, but excludes pre-existing conditions, specific illnesses, and conditions related to pregnancy and dental/oral care.
- Pre-existing Illness/Injury: This refers to a pre-existing condition or injury of the Insured prior to the start date of coverage under the insurance contract, and is an illness/injury that the Insured: a. Was diagnosed or treated by a doctor before the start date of coverage, and/or b. Shows signs or symptoms of the illness/injury within 36 months prior to the start date of coverage that the Insured was aware of or conscious of, regardless of whether the Insured actually sought medical examination or treatment. Determining pre-existing conditions must be based on medical records stored at a legally established hospital or medical facility, medical documents issued by the Ministry of Health and other competent authorities, or information provided by the Policyholder or Insured in the insurance application form, or based on the insurance company’s claims history.
- Special Illnesses: Under these Insurance Rules, the following illnesses are considered special illnesses:
- Neurological diseases: Inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system (brain), systemic atrophy affecting the central nervous system (Huntington’s disease, hereditary ataxia, spinal muscular atrophy and related syndromes), extrapyramidal movement disorders (Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, other movement and extrapyramidal disorders), Alzheimer’s disease, apallic syndrome, dementia, epilepsy, coma, cerebral palsy and other paralysis syndromes.
- Respiratory system diseases: Lung failure, pneumothorax, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
- Cardiovascular diseases: Heart disease, hypertension, essential hypertension, cerebrovascular diseases/stroke and their consequences/sequelae.
- Digestive system diseases: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, cirrhosis, liver failure, gallstones.
- Urinary system diseases: Diseases of the glomeruli, diseases of the renal tubules, kidney stones, ureteral stones, lower urinary tract stones, renal failure, nephrotic syndrome.
- Endocrine system diseases: Thyroid disorders, diabetes mellitus, pancreatic endocrine disorders, adrenal gland diseases, disorders of other endocrine glands.
- Tumor diseases: Cancer, tumors/growths of all kinds.
- Blood diseases: Coagulation disorders, neutrophil dysfunction, diseases related to the lymphatic reticuloendothelial system and reticuloendothelial system, bone marrow transplantation.
- Diseases of the skin and connective tissue: Lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, progressive epidermal sclerosis/amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and its complications, pemphigus, psoriasis, chronic allergic urticaria (treated with foreign antigens).
- Insurance Company: This refers to Bao Viet Insurance Corporation (Bao Viet Insurance) or its subsidiary companies established and operating under Vietnamese law.
- Actual medical expenses: These are the necessary and reasonable medical expenses incurred solely for the examination and treatment of the Insured Person as prescribed by a doctor in the case of illness, injury due to accident, or sickness covered by the insurance.
- Trip: This refers to the Insured’s movement to a location other than their place of residence for the purpose of sightseeing, relaxation, recreation, or tourism. The trip begins at 00:01 AM on the scheduled departure date and ends when one of the following conditions occurs: a) 23:59 PM on the end of the insurance period as stipulated in the Insurance Contract/Certificate; b) The Insured completes the trip and returns to their original point of origin.
- Epidemic: A sudden, severe outbreak of disease that spreads rapidly and unusually affects a large number of people within a geographical area. Epidemics are defined by declarations from competent authorities.
- A principal insurance contract/coverage contract: This is an agreement between the policyholder and the insurance company establishing certain rights and obligations regarding the provision of insurance services for multiple trips/stays/accommodations occurring within the insurance validity period of the contract.
- Insured Person: An individual accepted for insurance by the insurance company under these insurance rules, whose name is listed in the Insurance Application Form and is shown in the Insurance Contract/Insurance Certificate.
- Beneficiary: An individual or group of individuals who receives all or part of the insurance benefits of an insurance contract.
- Territorial Scope: According to these Insurance Rules, Bao Viet Insurance covers risks arising within the territory of Vietnam.
- Sum Insured: This is the total maximum insurance liability of all insurance benefits provided by Bao Viet Insurance to the Insured throughout the insurance period.
- Accident: Any unexpected, unforeseen event caused by a visible external force/agent acting on the Insured’s body, occurring within the insurance period, that directly results in bodily injury or death to the Insured, and is beyond the Insured’s control or intention.
- Insured age: This is the age of the Insured Person on the effective date of the Insurance Contract/Insurance Certificate, calculated based on the birthday immediately preceding the effective date of the Contract.
- Family members: This includes the insured’s legally married spouse, legal children (including biological children, stepchildren of the insured’s spouse, or legally adopted children).
- Insurance period: The insurance period is specified in the insurance contract/insurance certificate.
- Bodily injury: Bodily injury (or bodily harm) is biological damage to the human body caused by an accident. According to this insurance policy, bodily injury does not include conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth.
- Permanent Partial Disability: This refers to bodily injuries caused by accidents that result in the Insured Person permanently losing the function of one or more body parts as a consequence of amputation (loss) or complete and permanent paralysis of that body part. Permanent partial disability is only determined after treatment of the bodily injury causing the injury has ended. In the case of permanent partial disability not determined immediately after the end of treatment of the bodily injury, the injury is considered permanent partial disability if it persists for fifty-two (52) consecutive weeks from the date of end of treatment. Bao Viet Insurance only pays benefits for Permanent Partial Disability listed in Appendix I – Table of Mortality/Disability Rates attached.
- Permanent total disability: This refers to bodily injuries that completely prevent the Insured from participating in their work or render them completely incapable of working in any type of labor, lasting for 180 consecutive days from the date of completion of treatment, and with no hope of improvement of the disability.
a) Permanent total disability benefits will be considered for payment in one of the following cases:
- The insured person suffers total loss, total paralysis, and irreversible loss of function in: both arms; or both legs; or one arm and one leg; or both eyes; or one arm and one eye; or one leg and one eye.
- The insured person suffers bodily injury of 81% or more, resulting in complete inability to participate in their work or complete loss of the ability to work in any type of labor, as confirmed by a medical authority or the Provincial Medical Examination Board…
b) Certification that the Insured has lost a total body part (hand, leg, or eye) can be made immediately after the insured event occurs. Certification of complete paralysis and irreversible loss of body parts, or complete blindness, or bodily injury of 81% or more must be made no earlier than 180 days from the date of the insured event.
Article 2: Age, insured parties, and types of insurance
2.1. Age and subjects of insurance participation: Bao Viet Insurance accepts insurance for insured persons who are Vietnamese citizens or foreigners legally entering and residing in Vietnam, from six (06) months old to eighty (80) years old.
2.2. Types of insurance:
a) Travel insurance: For individuals traveling on trips within the territory of Vietnam.
b) Hotel and guesthouse insurance: Covers insured individuals staying at hotels or guesthouses within the territory of Vietnam.
c) Travel insurance: For people traveling (sightseeing, vacationing, entertainment) to tourist destinations within the territory of Vietnam.
2.3. Insurance coverage for participation in adventurous activities: Insurance coverage is only provided for activities such as surveys, explorations, diving deeper than 20 meters, dangerous performances, car racing, horse racing, boat racing, mountain climbing, etc., with the approval of Bao Viet Insurance and payment of an additional insurance premium.
CHAPTER II: SCOPE AND BENEFITS OF INSURANCE
Article 3: Scope and Benefits of Insurance
3.1. Death/Permanent Total Disability Due to Accident or Act of Saving People/Property: In the event that the Insured dies or suffers permanent total disability due to an accident or due to acts of saving people or property for the state or the people, or participating in combating illegal activities, Bao Viet Insurance will pay the full insurance amount.
3.2. Permanent partial disability due to accident or act of saving lives/property: In the event that the Insured suffers permanent partial disability… Bao Viet Insurance will pay a specific amount as follows:
- In cases where the Sum Insured (SI) ≤ 30 million VND/person/term: Payment will be made according to the Disability Rate Table in Appendix I × Sum Insured.
- In cases where the sum insured exceeds VND 30 million/person/term: Payment will be based on actual medical expenses incurred… and the maximum amount will not exceed the amount specified in the Mortality/Disability Rate Table in Appendix I × Sum Insured. (There is a provision for paying the difference if death/total permanent disability occurs within one year as a result of that event).
– Temporary partial disability due to accident or act of saving lives/property: In cases of temporary partial disability and resulting medical expenses:
- In cases where the sum insured is ≤ 30 million VND: Payment will be made according to the Mortality/Disability Rate Table in Appendix I × Sum Insured.
- In cases where the sum insured exceeds 30 million VND: Payment will be based on actual medical expenses incurred… not exceeding the amount specified in the Rate Table in Appendix I × Sum Insured, and not exceeding 50% of the Sum Insured.
- In cases where a financial invoice cannot be provided: Payment will be based on actual medical expenses incurred… according to the rate table in Appendix I… while not exceeding 15% of the insured amount.
Conditions of application: This benefit applies only to the Insured under the principal insurance contract/coverage contract signed with Bao Viet Insurance.
3.3. Death due to illness or disease during the trip: Bao Viet Insurance will pay 50% of the insured amount.
3.4. Death from an unknown cause: In the case of death from an unknown cause in individuals aged 18 to 65 (within the scope and timeframe), Bao Viet Insurance will pay 25% of the insured amount.
3.5. Ambulance Costs: Covers the cost of emergency ambulance transportation to the nearest hospital with adequate treatment facilities. The maximum limit is 1% of the Sum Insured.
CHAPTER III: INSURANCE CONTRACTS, COVERAGE, PREMIUMS, AND AMOUNT SUBSCRIBED
Article 4: Insurance contract, insurance validity
4.1. Travel Insurance: Insurance premiums must be paid before the start of the trip. The insurance is valid from the start of the trip at the departure point and ends at 23:59 on the last day or upon return to the departure point (whichever comes first). The maximum term is 180 days.
4.2. Hotel/Guesthouse Insurance: Insurance premiums are included with the room rate. Insurance is valid from the time of check-in and expires immediately upon check-out.
4.3. Insurance at the tourist site: The entrance fee includes insurance. The insurance is valid from the moment you pass through the ticket control gate and expires immediately upon leaving the tourist site.
Article 5: Termination of insurance contract
It will automatically terminate in the following cases:
- Trip insurance: when the Insured voluntarily terminates the trip.
- On-site insurance: when leaving the tourist destination area.
- Insurance at the hotel: upon completion of check-out procedures.
- The policyholder failed to fulfill their premium payment obligations.

CHAPTER IV: EXCLUSIONS
Article 7: Exclusions
Bao Viet Insurance is not liable for:
- Intentional acts by the Insured or the Beneficiary.
- The insured person, aged 14 or older, violates criminal law or traffic safety law (racing, driving without a license, entering prohibited areas, etc.).
- Driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 50 milligrams/100 milliliters of blood or 0.25 milligrams/1 liter of breath; or violating other provisions of the Law.
- The effects of stimulants, addictive substances, over-the-counter medications, alcohol, beer, etc.
- Special illnesses, pre-existing conditions/injuries, congenital defects, mental disorders, pregnancy and childbirth.
- Treatment not as directed by a doctor.
- Fighting (except self-defense).
- Aviation activities (excluding passenger flights), military exercises, combat.
- Risks of disasters (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc.), epidemics as recommended by WHO/competent authorities.
- War, civil war, terrorism, violence…
- Participating in adventurous activities (surveys, expeditions, diving deeper than 20m, racing, etc.) is prohibited unless an additional fee has been paid and permission has been obtained.
- Tuberculosis, malaria, occupational diseases, leprosy, mental illness, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS.
- People who are undergoing treatment for illnesses or injuries resulting in permanent disability exceeding 50%.
- The risk occurred outside the insurance period.
- Making a false declaration.
- Violation of the regulations of the tourist area/hotel/government.
- Traveling against a doctor’s advice or for the purpose of medical treatment.
CHAPTER V: RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE PARTIES
Article 8: Rights and obligations of Bao Viet Insurance
8.1. Rights: Collect fees; Request information; Unilaterally suspend payment; Refuse payment (if not within the scope/exclusion); Request the application of loss prevention measures.
8.2. Obligations: Explain the terms and conditions; Issue the contract/certificate; Pay insurance claims promptly; Explain the reason for refusal.
Article 9: Rights and obligations of the Policyholder and the Insured
9.1. Rights: Request for explanation; Unilateral termination; Claim for insurance payment.
9.2. Obligations: Pay premiums; Declare truthfully; Notify the insured of the insured event; Implement loss mitigation measures; Provide documentation for the claim.
CHAPTER VI: INSURANCE CLAIM PROCEDURES
Article 10: Time limit and documents for insurance claim
- Event announcement: Within 24 hours.
- Provide written notification: Within 30 days of the last treatment or death.
- Payment request documents (submitted within 12 months):
- Claim form.
- Insurance policy/certificate, tickets, hotel bill.
- Accident report/Incident statement.
- Medical documents (prescriptions, examination records, surgical reports, etc.).
- Medical expense and ambulance service documents (original invoices).
- Death records (Death certificate, inheritance documents).
- Power of attorney (if applicable).
Article 11: Payment of insurance benefits
- Resolution within 15 business days.
- Payment to the Insured/Beneficiary/Heir.
- If there is no beneficiary/heir, Bao Viet Insurance will pay funeral expenses (not exceeding the compensation amount).
- The right to refuse or request a refund in case of fraud.
CHAPTER VII: TIME LIMITS FOR COMPLAINTS AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Article 12: Time limit for complaints
Six months from the date of receiving the payment notice, and no more than three years from the date the dispute arose.
Article 13: Dispute Resolution
Negotiate or file a lawsuit in a Vietnamese court.
CHAPTER VIII: PREMIUMS AND INSURANCE AMOUNT
Article 14: Insurance Amount
From 10,000,000 VND to 400,000,000 VND per person per term.
Article 15: Insurance Premiums
15.1. Tourists who purchase travel insurance: Insurance premium = 0.015% × Insurance amount/day/person/trip.
15.2. Tourists staying at hotels, guesthouses, or tourist attractions:
- Insurance premium at hotels/guesthouses = 0.005% × Insurance amount/stay/person.
- Insurance premium at tourist destination = 0.005% × Insurance amount/trip/person.
15.3. Surcharge (for adventurous activities): Surcharge = 0.1% × Insurance amount/participation/person.
PRINCIPLES FOR DETERMINING INSURANCE PAYOUT RATES
- The rate table is a document for verifying payments. Anything outside the scope will not be considered.
- Losing its function completely is like losing a part.
- Injuries not listed will be compensated proportionally to their severity.
- Multiple injuries: the sum of the injuries must not exceed the total injury rate or the percentage of limb/organ loss. Head injuries are only reimbursed for the highest percentage.
- Only a one-time payment is required to cover the disability rate for a single accident (including multiple surgeries).
- Non-surgical fractures/tendon ruptures account for 70% of cases that require surgery (excluding spinal fractures).
- Burns of varying degrees over the same area are compensated at the average rate.
- For an injury that falls under multiple disability rating scales, compensation will be based on the highest rate.

- Trip insurance: 0.015% × Insurance amount/day/person/trip.
- Insurance at hotels and guesthouses: 0.005% × Insurance amount/stay/person.

- Surcharge (risk): 0.1% × Sum insured/participation/person.
INSURANCE BENEFITS TABLE
- Insurance coverage amount: VND 10 million to VND 400 million per person per term.
- Death/total permanent disability due to accident: 100% of the Sum Insured.
- Permanent partial disability due to accident:
- Insurance premium ≤ 30 million: Payment according to the Rate Table.
- Insurance premium > 30 million: Pay actual costs but not exceeding the rate table.
