TIME TO EXPLORE THIS CORAL JUNGLE REEF
The dry season (October till April) is the safest time to do snorkeling and scuba diving to explore corals here and sometimes in the rainy season. This is the best coral reef for diving & snorkeling during December and January in Phu Quoc in terms of water conditions and biodiversity.
Alive corals account for 99% at the Coral Jungle Reef, the reason is that there are usually strong currents here which prevent most people from reaching the reefs and help to spread coral eggs easier and stronger to build the reef. Need a very high accuracy water condition tracker to find the right time to visit here. Make reference to our small-group soft-adventure snorkeling trip or private snorkeling trip to explore the Coral Jungle reef and the old ambiance of Phu Quoc.
INTACT AND HEALTHY CORAL
Thanks to the special location, usually affected by strong current and high wave levels, the rough water conditions of the Coral Jungle reef is not easy for novices and beginners, even experiencers, thereby the reef is still pretty healthy with very high coverage of corals. From our observations, Coral Jungle Reef is the healthiest coral reef in Phu Quoc with alive coral ratio account for 95%. Please note that in the South Phu Quoc we can still have chance to explore very highly-diversified coral reefs such as: North-east Coral Reef, Half-moon Reef, Coral Steep and amazing huge coral colonies such as: Coral Mountain (the largest cactus coral colony in whole Phu Quoc) and Coral Hill (the second largest flowerpot coral colony in whole Phu Quoc) which are subject to water conditions which are tracked daily by Onbird’s internal water conditions forecasting model.
HIGH BIODIVERSITY CORAL REEF
Coral Jungle Reef is one of the most diversified coral reefs in Phu Quoc with more than 20 different coral species. thousand-square-meter area of coral garden. The colonies of hard corals have been growing into large gardens of corals thank to the shallow water, zooxanthellae algaes reside in coral polys carry out ther photosynthesis easily in the shallow water as they expose to the sunlight pretty much, from that photosynthesis process, zooxanthellae produce oxygen to help coral to remove wastes, sediments residing on them and most imporantly is to supply the hard corals with 90% of nutrients (glucose, glycerol, and amino acids) for corals to make proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, and produce calcium carbonate to build the reef.
Coral Jungle Reef is one of the most biodiversified coral reefs in not only Phu Quoc but whole Vietnam thanking to the special underwater terrain with nutrient poor water and strong currents that help to spread out coral larvae.
