Starting December 20, 2024, the low-cost airline Scoot will commence direct flights from Singapore to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, operating three round trips per week, as reported by The Strait Times.
Flights will depart Singapore at 12:35 PM (local time), arriving in Phu Quoc at 1:20 PM (local time). The return leg will leave Phu Quoc at 1:55 PM (local time) and reach Singapore at 4:50 PM (local time). Beginning January 2025, Scoot plans to expand this service to five round trips per week.
Phu Quoc is renowned for its stunning Kem Beach, Bai Ham Rong, Sao Beach, Half-moon Beach, often regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The introduction of this direct flight route signals a positive development for Phu Quoc, highlighting its growing appeal as a destination. The island has recently received accolades from prestigious international travel publications: Travel Leisure named it the second most beautiful island globally, trailing only the Maldives, while Condé Nast Traveler recognized it as one of the world’s most remarkable islands for three consecutive years, with ratings significantly increasing each year.
The new direct flight from Singapore is poised to create numerous opportunities for Phu Quoc. It is expected to attract not only tourists from Singapore but also visitors from various countries, as Singapore serves as one of the world’s busiest transit hubs, welcoming approximately 85 million travelers annually.
As a visa-free destination for all visitors, Phu Quoc is anticipated to become a favored spot for expatriates and professionals from Europe and America residing in Singapore. It is estimated that Singapore hosts around 1.64 million foreign residents, a stark contrast to Bangkok, Thailand, which has approximately 200,000. These individuals often seek weekend getaways to popular Southeast Asian islands such as Phuket, Koh Samui, and Bali. Given the competitive pricing and the mere two-hour flight from Singapore, Phu Quoc is well-positioned to emerge as a new attractive destination for this demographic, offering a more economical alternative, especially considering that the average daily living cost in Singapore is around 1.9 million VND per person.
Phu Quoc possesses significant potential to draw tourists, known for its unique ecosystems with forest, coral reefs, river, natural reservoir and pristine beaches, as well as its UNESCO-recognized National Park and World Biosphere Reserve. The Strait Times highlighted this allure in its rationale for establishing the new flight route. Experts suggest that October and November are ideal months to introduce this route, as the island enters its most picturesque season. Booking platforms have also ranked Phu Quoc among the top five “most romantic” autumn destinations in Vietnam, owing to its mild autumn and winter weather.
To attract visitors during the year-end tourist season, Phu Quoc is preparing to unveil a series of new experiences. Last year, the island gained international attention with the launch of Cau Hon, a unique “no-touch” bridge, and the Kiss of the Sea show at the world’s largest sea theater. This year, Phu Quoc will continue to engage visitors with the Symphony of the Sea show, which combines jetski performances, flyboards, and traditional Vietnamese elements such as flags and kites. Additionally, the island will feature shows at the Sun Baravia Bistro beer restaurant and various entertainment options, promising a vibrant year-end tourist season filled with festivals and fireworks.
For golf enthusiasts, Phu Quoc is emerging as a new golf paradise, recently unveiling the 18-hole Eschuri Vung Bau golf course, which boasts breathtaking views and a unique layout that integrates mountainous terrain and coastal scenery.
Travelers will be able to book flights from Singapore to Phu Quoc starting November 11, 2024, with one-way economy fares beginning at approximately $135. “We aspire to encourage more travelers to discover the diverse experiences our new destinations provide. We will persist in seeking opportunities to expand our network, connecting our customers to fresh travel experiences,” stated Leslie Thng, the Chief Executive Officer of Scott, in an interview with The Straits Times.
