Located at 9°57’15.3’’ North latitude and 104°01’03.8’’ East longitude, Pineapple Island — also known as Hòn Thơm or 菠萝岛 in Chinese (the island of wild pineapple trees) — is the largest among the small islands of the An Thới archipelago, situated just off the southern coast of Phú Quốc, Vietnam.

Once a humble fishing village, Hòn Thơm has transformed into a premier entertainment destination developed by Sun Group — a leading Vietnamese developer renowned for integrating tourism, resort, and real estate projects. However, the proposal was ultimately rejected to preserve the area’s ecological integrity, many biologist scientists criticized that project, luckily it did not happen.

Pineapple Island (Hon Thom) – Geography

 

Located in the South of Roi Island, within 8 km of the An Thoi seaport, this has been home for many fishermen for hundreds of years. But nowadays with the tourism is on the strong rise involve the demand of enjoying pristine islands as tourists come to Phu Quoc, Hon Thom or Pineapple (Hon Thom) island is under a massive project of developing the island into a great natural park and natural amusement in the future, firstly as you see is the opening of the world’s longest sea-crossing cable connecting the southernmost town of Phu Quoc – An Thoi town to Pineapple (Hon Thom) island.

Up till now when you set your feet on the Pineapple (Hon Thom) island, the first location is A6 – the final station of the Cable car, as well as the starting point on the way, go back from Pineapple island after your interval on the island, from here you will be being taken to the location A1 that has a natural beach with some water games such as watery motor, kayak, sliding… At a complex of amusements including a waterpark is under construction, according to plan it will be accomplished in the middle of 2020, with the opening of the amusement park on the island soon it will be able to live up to your expectation when you visit the island by cable car because except the beach at A1 then other beaches A3, A5 is still under the process of renovating because the beaches here are former houses of fishermen on the island before, a massive resettlement plan is being implemented on the island over fishermen housing.

The Trao Beach or Ciao Beach will be normally a teeming beach as visiting Pineapple (Hon Thom) island is a fabulous experience if you come to Phu Quoc.

The natural beach at location is still as good as impossible to reach by tourists as they get on the island by cable car, three photos below were taken at the natural beach of A4. This is a shallow watery beach with sparkling water and yellow sand, appropriate for some preparation before or after snorkeling.
This tranquil beach is not the teeming place if we get here late in the morning or late in the afternoon but it is better to enjoy sunray in sparkling water late in the morning from our point of view. Bringing some beers and spending your quiet, warm interval with your family.

At location A5, they have been renovating the beach here to open it for use soon but as the location facing to the East side of Phu Quoc then the beach here will be normally receiving big wave owning to the influence of the Northeast monsoon during Dry season. The beach at A3 will be probably opened latest as there is still the existence of former construction left by fishermen before and the point of loading goods, material for constructions on the island.
