Snorkeling & diving to explore Coral Hill in Phu Quoc island, Vietnam. The second largest flowerpot coral cluster in whole Phu Quoc

Coral Hill stands as an extensive cluster of Flowerpot coral (Goniopora) situated in South Phu Quoc Island, marking the second-largest flowerpot coral cluster of Phu Quoc documented by OnBird. Goniopora stokesi, commonly known as Flowerpot coral, features a spherical shape with elongated tentacles. This genus of colonial stony coral thrives in lagoons and murky water environments. Flowerpot corals showcase multiple daisy-like polyps that project outward from their base, each adorned with 24 stinging tentacles encircling a central mouth.

The flowerpot coral cluster we have discovered has flourished into a substantial size, resembling a hill with its outward growth. Its estimated area spans approximately 40 to 45 square meters, considerably smaller than the Coral Mountain, which hosts the largest cactus coral colony in Phu Quoc. The depth range for exploring the Coral Hill is between 3 to 6 meters, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling adventures.

The health status of Coral Hill remains robust, with minimal damage observed on a few clusters. This site serves as a habitat for small fish schools, particularly during periods of strong ocean currents. Notably, we have witnessed an abundance of baby blue fish seeking refuge within the coral clusters, enhancing the splendor of this marine environment.
