HOW TO AVOID THE CROWD ON YOUR SNORKELING TRIP IN PHU QUOC ISLAND

The jade water at Crystal Reef - Phu Quoc snorkeling tour that avoids the crowds

I. PHU QUOC OF FEW YEARS AGO

Totally different from the island few years ago, Phu Quoc Island has been increasingly getting overcrowded with 5 millions of tourists annually right before COVID-19 (early 2020).  More and more direct flights to Phu Quoc have been opened, especially there are also many big group tours and charter flights to Phu Quoc than ever, the numerous tourists filled fully hotel and resort rooms as well as destinations, beaches… on the island.
Few years ago, when joining snorkeling & island hopping to the An Thoi archipelago, South Phu Quoc Island, guests could enjoy a completely peaceful atmosphere at secluded islands (Dam Ngang or Gam Ghi Island, May Rut Trong island (Hon Vong), May Rut Ngoai island, Hon Mong Tay – Fringernail Island) without the appearance of big groups of people.

Before 2019, most of islands were unspoiled where you just found empty beach surrounded by jungle, rock without noisy seafood-restaurants, colorful check-in spots, without the appearance of bunch of big-size speedboats, wooden boats. The era of a wild Phu Quoc has been over.

II. PHU QUOC TODAY

It seems to be impossible to seek a sort of quiet atmosphere of the Old Phu Quoc nowadays. When joining in group tours, what you meet during the tour is just crowds, hundreds of people going to the same place at the same time with you. Also on your touring group, there are many people: 15 – 20 people on the speedboat  or even up to 30 – 80 – 100 people on wooden boats.

At island you go to on boat tours, they are also overcrowded, such as Fingernail Island which is one of best-well known island among An Thoi islands (An Thoi archipelago) with beautiful small beach, jade water and a dense forest back to the beach, but now come to this island, the beach is occupied by speedboats, big wooden boats, you don’t have a safe space to swim.

On the island green patches are no longer exist as it has been concreted with a big sea-food restaurant which serve guests on speedboat tours. Thousands of people visiting here daily make it super crowded, they come here for food and check-in with the swing but not relaxing. That why we no longer take guests to this island anymore.
The same situation is also happening to other islands namely May Rut Ngoai and May Rut Trong Island.

Go to May Rut Island today, you might be astonished by the groups of tourist who prefer check-in or fly-cam recording rather than enjoying the beach.
Guests on sort of tours line up to wait for their turn for fly-cam photos, videos of strolling along the beach and sexy photos in Bikini with SUP at snorkeling spots, guests do exactly what tour guides and cameramen say for the purpose of getting photos to post facebook and instagram.
We classify those check-in tours, they are labeled as 3-island, 4-island and 5-island tours.
